The museum is located in the newly developing East Village Arts District of Long Beach, California. MoLAA is the only museum in the western United States to exclusively feature contemporary Latin American art.

This position is responsible for the planning and the day-to-day operation, management, and care of MoLAA’s collection and related registration and exhibition activities. The Collections Manager reviews the collection annually with the Arts Administrator to ensure that collection descriptions and values are current for insurance purposes. Reports directly to the Arts Administrator.

Essential Functions:

Under general supervision performs coordination and administration for the permanent collection and traveling shows.

  • Direct the management of MoLAA’s permanent collection, manage all art storage functions, and implement policies and procedures for the collection
  • Provide registration and condition reporting for incoming and outgoing art works, for both temporary exhibitions and permanent acquisitions
  • Handle incoming offers of acquisitions, solicitations, and donations from collectors, dealers and other museums.
  • Manage computer-based cataloguing and imaging of permanent collection and travel exhibits
  • Expands and enhances collections catalog and documentation
  • Initiate and implement a disaster recovery plan to help ensure the stability of MoLAA’s collection in case of water, fire, or seismic events

    Qualifications

    Knowledge /Skills/Experience Required:

    • Registrar/collections management experience preferred
    • Must be familiar with museum collection and conservation methods and procedures.
    • Intermediate/advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Internet (Embark or PageMaker preferred)
    • Detail oriented, with strong writing skills and demonstrated ability to communicate well with a broad range of individuals including artists, volunteers, Trustees, vendors, staff and donors.
    • Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred

     

    Bachelor’s degree (M.A. preferred) in Art History, Museum Studies, Latin American Studies or related field required.
