Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is an AAM-accredited, American Renaissance estate in a spectacular subtropical setting on Biscayne Bay. Vizcaya consists of 14 National Historic Landmark buildings on 50 acres of grounds, with 2,500 art and 35,000 archival objects.
 
The museum is in midst of developing new programs to engage the local community in learning through the arts, history, and the environment, and embarking on a government-funded $50-million capital program to rehabilitate the main house, gardens, and the Vizcaya village, which will open to the public for the first time. Vizcaya attracts approximately 150,000 visitors each year.
Primary Responsibilities
The Deputy Director for Collections and Curatorial Affairs supervises a Collections and Archives Manager, two Collections Care Specialists, and consulting conservators hired to undertake specific projects at the museum. The Deputy Director will oversee or play a leading role in collections management, collections care, conservation planning, research, and interpretation, the latter including curatorial oversight of the museum's new Contemporary Arts Project, which invites two artists per year to develop site-specific installations at Vizcaya. In addition, the Deputy Director will bring an integral perspective to the museum's capital program. This individual will be responsible for participating in fundraising to enhance both general and collections-specific support of Vizcaya.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications: bachelor’s degree in art history or related field. A minimum of three to six years of experience as a museum curator or a curatorial administrator is required. Prefer master’s or doctorate degree in art history or related field, with demonstrated scholarly expertise in the Gilded Age/American Renaissance and the decorative arts; curatorial experience of 5 years, including administration and supervision; exceptional communication skills; individual must be collaborative and visionary. Salary Negotiable Salary Minimum: $70,570
