The Contemporary Museum seeks a Curator of Education to lead education staff in sharing the meaning of contemporary art with the public through a variety of programs, activities, publications and other means of communication. The Curator of Education reports to the Director.
Primary Responsibilities
As a Department Head, the Curator of Education supervises the staff of the Education Department (including the Museum educators and the Librarian), and is responsible for developing the vision and direction of the department, in cooperation with the other Department Heads (the Chief Curator and the Development Director), and under leadership of the Director. The Curator of Education trains and oversees the Docent program, including a volunteer group of approximately 50 Docents, and develops and implements an educational vision for TCM.
Qualifications
TCM seeks an educator with proven experience in visual art or art museum education, a knowledge of and/or openness to contemporary art, and the ability to communicate in a positive manner with a variety of people, including other staff members, volunteers and the general public. The Curator of Education must be able to work in a demanding environment, requiring flexibility and creative problem solving abilities. A Bachelor’s Degree in art education or a related field is required; additional education and/or equivalent museum experience is desirable. Education experience provides a necessary and vital balance to the curatorial focus of the museum. A complete job description follows. Salary range is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
