The Gulf Coast Museum of Art is seeking an experienced, creative, team-oriented and highly motivated individual to fill a new position of Curator of Collections and Exhibitions. The Gulf Coast Museum of Art is committed to collecting contemporary Florida artists and southeastern fine crafts and holds a collection of over 444 objects that includes, outdoor sculpture, works on paper, paintings and drawings.
Primary Responsibilities
- Conducting research on the permanent collection, potential acquisitions and loans
- Writing catalogue essays and entries, wall labels, pamphlets and press releases, etc.
- Proposing, developing, and implementing a regular program of exhibitions from the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions for consideration of the Executive Director
- Building, refining and strengthening the permanent collection by researching and proposing new acquisitions
- Presenting gallery talks and public lectures
- Working with the Curator of Education to develop public programming related to all exhibitions and the docent program
Qualifications
- M.A degree preferably in art history and knowledge of Florida artists
- A minimum of five (5) years of curatorial experience
- Knowledge of museum practices
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Good management and organizational skills
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Have a Valid Florida driver's license
