The Director of Development will be joining the institution as it prepares to expand its development program and launch a major Endowment Campaign. The institution has a long history of fundraising success including two capital campaigns that raised more than $65 million and successful membership and annual giving programs. The museum’s members and donors number over 60,000 and represent supporters in all 50 states and 16 countries.

The ideal candidate will have strong management and administrative experience to lead a comprehensive development program including membership, annual giving, grants and development operations. Responsible for overseeing the development of annual fundraising plans, revenue goal achievement, forecasting and reporting. Position requires The Director of Development to work closely with the President/CEO and major gift officers on the Endowment campaign.

Known as a thought-leader in its field, the institution celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2010. The museum’s broad scope of activities includes exhibitions, public programs, concerts, video documentaries, educational programs, scholarly research, multilingual Web-based projects, international relations, and historic preservation. The institution recently opened the National Center for the Preservation of Democracy (www.ncdemocary.org), an innovative non-profit, nor-partisan educational institution that that creates programs that link the diversity with American democracy.
Primary Responsibilities
Oversees the development of plans and strategies to achieve institution’s annual fundraising goals. Responsible for revenue forecasting, analysis of fundraising programs, reporting and working with senior staff to make course adjustments. Ensure strong coordination and communication with other departments. Work with staff to develop plans and strategies for database administration and maintenance, processing, prospect management, research, and donor stewardship functions for annual plan and Endowment campaign. Represents the department on key institutional projects and programs and externally as requested. May be required to work weekends, evenings and to travel occasionally.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree required. A Master’s Degree preferred.
A minimum of ten years experience with increasing responsibility in non-profit fundraising. Position requires strong management and administrative experience to lead a comprehensive development programs including membership, annual giving, grants and development operations. Demonstrated ability to manage and lead a team that is able to deliver results.
The Director of Development must be effective at establishing and achieving goals, measurement metrics, systems and procedures to monitor and evaluate the organization’s development performance. Must have experience and ability to work effectively with audience of diverse backgrounds. Experience in building and launching new initiatives desired. Experience working on campaigns (specifically endowment campaigns) is a plus.

Computer literate, Internet savvy, and experience with MS Word, Excel, and Power Point. Experience with Raisers Edge fundraising software is a plus.
