The Board of Trustees of the Pensacola Museum of Art (PMA) is seeking an Executive Director who will be responsible for developing and implementing the overall vision and strategy for the Museum with the Trustees and staff. The Executive Director of the PMA, is the Chief Administrative and Artistic Director of the Museum, and is responsible for the daily operations including fiscal management and curatorial responsibilities.
The Pensacola Museum of Art is a member owned institution led by an elected Board of Trustees through the Executive Director. Located in the Northwest Florida Panhandle and housed in the Old City Jail, the PMA serves a population of 400,000 as well as visitors throughout the U.S.. Now in it’s 54th year, the mission of the PMA is three fold; to present an array of stimulating, stellar exhibitions within our historic structure, collecting, preserving and presenting works from the 20th and 21st centuries with an emphasis on modern and contemporary art and implementing age-specific educational programs to inspire and encourage an appreciation of the arts.
Qualifications
The Executive Director should have a solid background in the visual arts with an accredited organization, preferably in museum leadership or management. The Executive Director should have exceptional oral, written and management skills; he or she will be the key spokesperson for the Museum and must be able to convey excitement and appreciation for the PMA’s mission, exhibitions and programs. The candidate must also have experience in fundraising. The Executive Director must be capable of establishing and cultivating relationships with other art institutions and individuals throughout the art world (Southeast and beyond – I would recommend more broad). This position should be viewed as an opportunity to expand and build upon the already successful history of this small museum.
A Masters or PhD in arts administration, art history, fine art or equivalent experience is required. Alternative credentials may be considered for applicability. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
