Jewish Museum seeks innovative professional w. museum experience. Responsibilities include docents, educational programs, curricula for exhibits, teacher workshops, collaborations with schools. Strong communication, administrative & MAC skills.
Primary Responsibilities
-
Docents
- Recruit and train docents annually and prior to each temporary exhibit
- Create educational training and curriculum material for each temporary exhibit
- Maintain supply of and update docent manuals
- Cultivation, supervision, continuous evaluation and development of docent team
- Write and distribute monthly volunteer newsletter
- Work with admissions director on the docent schedule
- Maintain ongoing relationship with chairperson
- Manage volunteer acknowledgement award ceremony -- end of fiscal year calculate docent hours for awards and certificates
- Serve as liaison among docents, public and Museum staff, as needed

Education: Develop and execute the following:
A. Students (Jewish and Non-Jewish)
- Conceptualize and develop curriculum and interpretative material related to exhibits (temporary and permanent) for students K-12
- Spearhead the distribution of curriculum materials tri-county and statewide
- As needed, serve as on-site lead educator for school groups
- Grow and manage schools tour programs
- Cultivate and garner established relationships with Jewish schools, camps, youth groups
- Maintain solid relationships with members of Miami Dade, Broward and Palm Beach County administrations and school boards; as well as statewide Social Studies Coordinators
- Interface with Museum Educator from Miami-Dade County who comes on Wednesdays
- Partnership outreach to institutions for academic and cultural relationships for the purpose of joint programs, building a base of knowledge and exchange infrastructure
B. Educators/Adults
- Coordinate, conceive, manage and develop arts integrated, exhibit based, professional development workshops for educators
- Manage the proposal and follow up process for all approved professional development workshops in conjunction with county public school systems
- Understand educational philosophies, benchmarks, standards for proposals and grants
- Cultivate and invite adult groups appropriate to the Museum’s mission and exhibits

Public Programs: Develop and execute the following:
- appropriate public programs for each temporary exhibit
- appropriate programs for specific issues relevant to the Museum’s mission
- annual Events:
- Glass Ceiling Awards – work with committee

Outreach
- Coordinate all educational outreach statewide for Annual Florida Jewish History Month each January and for Jewish American Heritage Month each May
- Maintain and sustain statewide program and contact with regional educational representatives
- Conceptualize and develop new programs as needed

Administrative
- Provide Executive Director with Monthly Board Report for each department
- Submit quarterly articles for TILES newsletter
- Maintain contact database of schools in South Florida
- Develop and monitor annual budget for education department
- Collaborate in the development of grant proposals, provide appropriate exhibit based program plans for education, as needed
- Seek funding sources for students’ buses & programs

General
- Represent Museum at conferences, meetings and symposiums that will positively impact on the Museum’s programming
- Do whatever is necessary/cooperate with and assist other staff to help the Museum further its mission
- Provide Computer Technicians with all website updates for education related information
