The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, Sarasota, Florida
Posted: 10/24/2007
Level: Mid

In 2000, the museum's governance was transferred from the State of Florida to Florida State University, redefining the Ringling's educational mission. Major renovations were completed on the Museum of Art, Ca d'Zan Mansion, and Circus Museum. The historic Asolo Theater was restored, while new landscaping enhanced the original 66-acre estate. Four new buildings have recently opened: the Tibbals Learning Center that doubled the size of our Circus Museum; the Visitors Pavilion to serve some 350,000 annual guests; an Education Building to house our library, conservation facility, classrooms and staff offices; and new galleries for traveling art exhibitions. Refining and expanding programs for children, adults and university students remains a priority. Learn more about our organization through our website at www.ringling.org.
Primary Responsibilities
Responsibilities include maintaining the integrity and organization of the Circus Museum's growing digital collections; planning, designing, implementing and evaluating the digital activities and information policies of the Circus Museum; working knowledge of cutting edge interactive and digitization technologies as well as a familiarity with new media; leadership in developing digital collections policies; acting as liaison to Registrar's and Information Technology Offices.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and four years experience, and knowledge of museum procedures and collection management systems, and Internet technology required. Preferred BA, or MA in Library, Information Science, History or related field. One to two years experience in cataloguing and handling Museum objects.
