General Job Description
Authority
The Museum Director has the authority to carry out the duties of the office within the frame work of the by-laws, policies, plans and budget as approved by the Board of Directors. He or she has the authority to enter into contract of agreement on behalf of the Museum as directed by the Board of Directors.
Primary Responsibilities
As Per Article VIII Section A of the governing By-Laws of the Ormond Memorial Art Museum & Gardens:
1. Appointment and Reporting Relationship
The Museum Director shall be appointed by the Board of Directors to serve for a period determined by a contract established between the Museum Director and the Board of Directors. The Museum Director is subject to the authority of the President and the Board of Directors, and his or her performance shall be reviewed as deemed necessary by the Executive Board at the May meeting.
2. Duties and Responsibilities
The Museum Director shall be an ex-officio member of all standing committees and special committees, shall attend the Annual Meeting, and shall attend all regular meetings of the Board of Directors and give reports of Museum activities. The Museum Director shall oversee the daily operation and management of the Museum and supervise all administrative personnel.
Qualifications
Training and Skills Required
A Bachelor’s Degree with experience in public or business administration with special emphasis on marketing and public relations is required. A Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Art or Art History is preferred. A successful candidate must be organized, results oriented, and able to make effective presentations to small and large groups. Further, he or she must be a consensus builder and problem solver; with a demonstrated ability to win the respect and support of local elected officials, educators, business leaders, board members, museum supporters, volunteers, and patrons. The ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing is imperative.
Conditions of Employment
The Museum Director will serve at the pleasure of the Board of Directors. During the first six months of employment, the performance of the Museum Director will be closely supervised by the Board of Directors. At the end of this first six months, an interim performance review will be conducted. After this initial timeframe, a performance review shall be conducted by the Board of Directors each year at the May meeting or as deemed necessary.
Compensation
The Museum Director will earn a salary between $40,000 and $50,000 per year. Salary will be determined by the Board of Directors based upon the successful candidate’s skill set and experience. This salary will be reviewed annually. Medical benefits also will be provided. This position is a full-time position and requires attendance at museum functions such as board meetings, exhibit openings, and fundraising events that often occur after museum hours. Flex time is allowed provided adequate staff coverage is maintained during regular hours and museum functions.
Additional Compensation
Additional compensation may be earned in the form of performance bonuses not to exceed 10% for the receipt of grants and endowments; or successful achievement of fundraising goals as set and determined by the Board of Directors
