Posted: 11/12/2007
Level: Senior
Type: Permanent
Job Categories: Director

The Board of Directors of The American Civil War Center at Historic Tredegar invites nominations and applications for the position of President, representing a unique opportunity to lead an emerging, dynamic organization and to shape national understanding of the issues and relevance of a critical period in America’s history. The American Civil War Center’s mission is to tell the whole story of the conflict that still shapes our nation. Located in Richmond, VA, the Center, housed in the historic Tredegar Gun Foundry, opened its inaugural exhibit in October 2006 and has hosted more than 20,000 visitors. In addition to educational programs and events on-site, the Center has also mounted education events in cities across the country. To further its reach in telling the Civil War story, the Center is working on developing an Educational Web Companion that can be used by teachers as a curriculum development resource. Leading candidates will demonstrate commitment, understanding, and a contagious passion for history, education, and the Center’s mission. Candidates will be expected to provide visionary leadership for high-quality, innovative programming and delivery methods. Demonstrable success in strategic planning, institutional positioning, fund raising, and organizational leadership is desired.
