The Junior Museum of Bay County seeks an Executive Director to lead us in our mission to inspire and educate children through interactive exhibits and programs focusing on science, history, cultural studies and the environment. Our twelve acres include a main exhibit building, a nature walk that winds through several acres of natural wetlands and a pioneer village. We are in the midst of a successful capital campaign and plan to break ground on our new Education Center next year. The Museum has an operating budget of over $400,000 and serves approximately 20,000 visitors a year.
The Junior Museum is located in Panama City, Florida, home of the world’s most beautiful beaches. Over the past decade, Northwest Florida has enjoyed an economic boom. The Junior Museum is looking for a candidate that can capitalize on this growth and lead the Museum to a higher level in terms of organizational growth, budget and visitors served. If successful, the candidate’s salary will be adjusted accordingly.
Primary Responsibilities
The Director will be responsible for implementing the museum’s mission through fundraising, marketing, community relations, program development, staff recruitment and management and ongoing evaluation against the strategic plan. The Executive Director reports to and works closely with the Board of Directors.
- Develop strategic plan in coordination with Board members.
- Develop and manage operating budget with finance committee
- Plan, organize and direct programs, evaluate results
- Hire and manage staff, volunteers and consultants
- Active involvement in capital campaign and fundraising
- Work with Fundraising, Exhibit, Education, Finance, Building and
Grounds and Marketing Committees
- Represent the Junior Museum in community and with the media
- Plan, develop and facilitate special events
- Attend all board meetings and execute decisions of the Board
- Attend annual Association of Children’s Museum conference and Florida Association of Museums conference
Qualifications
Qualified candidates must have demonstrated skills in fundraising, marketing, management, community leadership, budget and program development. Exceptional interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills required. Previous experience in museum management and grant writing preferred. Bachelor’s degree and experience in a management position required, advanced degree a plus.
Salary $45,000
