Responsible for overseeing the quality of all science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) educational programs conducted by the Science Factory, primarily for ages 2-12. The incumbent ensures that participants with diverse needs can engage in a wide range of high-quality programs that are appropriate for both school-based and after-school audiences.
The Director of Education serves as the Science Factory’s instructional leader, developing content and curriculum, overseeing teacher professional development experiences that integrate best practices in inquiry learning with interactive science teaching methodology, working with staff, visitors and volunteers to increase the overall educational strength of the organization.
Primary Responsibilities
The incumbent is responsible for fostering both strategic partnerships, collaborations, planning for future innovative programs while also teaching some classes, and administering current programs, including summer camp, after-school programming, special events, educational outreach and facilitating work with volunteer Education Committee.
Qualifications
- Certification in K-12 education required.
- Masters degree in education, science or related field preferred.
- Supervisory and budget experience is required.
- Position requires a flexible work schedule.
- Excellent written and oral communication
- Strong interpersonal and presentation skills
- Computer skills, word processing
- Budgeting experience
- Supervisory experience
- Grant writing experience preferred
- Ability to lift 30 pounds
- Oregon drivers license and reliable transportation
- Strong commitment to museum mission
- Sense of humor
Salary Salary negotiable, depending upon qualifications and experience.
