The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art Internship Program introduces graduate students to the intricacies of a major museum complex. It provides insight into museum careers through practical work experience not available in most academic settings. Interns participate in daily operations of specific museum departments and have the opportunity to attend museum tours with curators, board meetings, lectures, exhibition openings, and departmental orientations.

Positions for 2008 are in the Art Library, Asian Art, Education, Marketing, Technology Integration, and The Historic Asolo Theatre. The internship consists of eight, 40-hour weeks from June 12 – August 1, 2008 (except in Education which is ten-weeks from May 30 – August 7, 2008). Interns earn $11.25 per hour (less taxes) and are paid bi-weekly. Interns are responsible for their housing (the Museum will assist with locating nearby rentals).
Primary Responsibilities
Art Library The art library internship will provide the intern with exposure to all aspects of special art librarianship. Staff will mentor the intern in learning the provision and management of information services at one of the finest art libraries in the southeast United States.

Asian Art
The Asian art intern will carry out research work on the Ringling Museum of Art, Koger, and Helga Wall-Apelt collections of Asian art in the museum. The intern will work with the curatorial staff and with the Asian art curatorial consultant. The intern will also be involved with other research and exhibition projects in the curatorial department.

Education
The education intern will serve as the lead teacher for summer Culture Camps and will be involved in all aspects of planning, implementing, and evaluating a summer museum camp program. This is a 10-week internship that runs from May 30 – August 7, 2008

Historic Asolo Theatre
The theater intern will assist the Technical Director with Historic Asolo summer 2008 programming including one large, extended run show with small lecture/recitals intertwined. The intern will have an opportunity to gain experience with professional theater companies and artists. The intern will be a part of a complete production process, from contracting to strike and load-out providing insight on the entire process.

Marketing and Communications
The marketing and communications intern will help support targeted marketing and public relations strategies that ensure the Museum has a successful shoulder season. Its shoulder season runs from May through October. Marketing and PR initiatives during this time target state-wide tourists and locals through strategic efforts including collaborating with organizations that complement the Museum.

Technology Integration
The Technology intern will be an integral part of the Office of Technology Integration (OTI) team assisting in various critical technology-related projects.
Qualifications
Candidates must be current graduate students or accepted into a graduate program at the time of the internship. The Museum encourages students from all backgrounds to apply and is committed to a culturally diverse internship group.
