The Japanese American National Museum is a new model for American museums dedicated to transforming lives and strengthening community through the exploration of diverse histories, arts and culture.
Primary Responsibilities
The Education Assistant is responsible for supporting the education department staff, including scheduling all tours to the museum; insuring adequate docent coverage; supervising the Museum’s volunteer docents on a daily basis; and assisting in the creation and support of school tours, family days, teacher workshops, and school district partnerships. Position is for 32 hours/week (mainly Tues-Fri). Weekend and Evening hours may be required.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree preferred with at least 2 years experience working in a non-profit, volunteer-centered organization. Understanding of basic principles of volunteer management. Professional phone manner essential and ability to multi-task and prioritize. Knowledge of Japanese American history and culture a plus. Computer literate, Internet savvy, experience with MS Office and Vista preferred.
