Jewish Museum of Florida seeks a trained and experienced professional responsible for maintaining Collections according to highest museum standards, Changing Exhibit Development in-house (research/prepare materials content/write text & captions) and exhibits borrowed from other institutions as well as maintain core exhibit. Background in Jewish history, Jewish art a plus. Must be excellent writer w. proficiency in MAC computer, FM Pro, scanning.
Primary Responsibilities
  1. Core Exhibit: MOSAIC: Jewish Life in Florida
    • Check regularly and maintain exhibit and update as necessary; keep labels fresh
    • Maintenance and updates of computer family database, three films and other electronics
    • Supervise registrar in creating and updating scrapbooks; addition of films
  2. Temporary Exhibit program
    • Part of team developing exhibition schedule
    • Check regularly and maintain all exhibits; keep labels fresh
    • Administration of exhibits, including preparing budgets and production schedules for each
    • Research, develop and write in-house exhibitions (outline, storyline, text and labels)
    • Prepare materials content
    • Work with designer for layout and design of in-house exhibits
    • Work with designer on for production of in-house exhibits
    • Coordinate loan agreements, arrangements and Florida Connection for borrowed exhibits
    • Work with designer for installation and maintenance of exhibits
  3. Collections Management
    • Supervise registrar in the implementation of collections management and care, processing of new acquisitions and loans, maintenance of collections database
    • Maintenance of professional museum standards
    • Conservation care
    • Help solicit items for the collection (work with registrar and designer)
  4. Grant Proposals
    • Assist as needed with grant proposals relative to exhibitions & collections
    • Research Requests (work with Registrar)
    • Provide access as needed to Collections
    • Process research requests
  5. Assist Executive Director and other Staff
    • Work with the Executive Director and prepare reports as needed and cooperate with and assist other staff to further the mission of the Museum.
    • Work with Program Director to create materials for teaching and docent training
