The Executive Director provides overall leadership for the museum, including operations, staff management, financial management within the budget, fundraising, and public/community relations. Strategic direction and budgets are set by the Board of Trustees to whom the director reports. The Executive Director is responsible for day-to-day operations of the museum and acts as liaison between the Board and staff, serving as an advocate for both groups, and reinforcing an environment that encourages communication, collaboration, and creative thinking.

The museum is seeking candidates with the following qualifications:

-Leadership qualities combined with a history of concrete, measurable accomplishments.
-Museum experience and/or experience with not-for-profits.
-Strong preference for candidates with experience working with docents and volunteers.
-Degree in History preferred, but will consider candidates with degrees in museum studies and related fields.
-Demonstrated skills in community relations along with strong oral and written communication skills.
-Fundraising/grant writing skills a major plus.

The museum, a 501(c)3 corporation, receives approximately 35,000 visitors a year, operates with a $400,000 budget, and has recently been nominated for THE NATIONAL MEDAL FOR MUSEUM AND LIBRARY SERVICE.

MISSION STATEMENT:
The Amelia Island Museum of History, a not-for-profit organization, fosters community and visitor appreciation of Nassau County's unique history within the context of Florida, national and world history.

OBJECTIVES:
-To collect, preserve and exhibit artifacts, documents, photographs, and additional materials in both traditional and multi-media format.
-To research, document and interpret the historical record.
-To promote and share the community's rich and diverse history through tours, educational programs, publications, research facilities and other outreach activities.
