Job Description:
The Museum Environmental Education Coordinator reports to the Museum Education Director and works closely with the museum department. The Museum Environmental Education Coordinator will be responsible for the implementation of programs in the natural sciences for all ages that is consistent with the mission of Historic Virginia Key Beach Park. These programs focus on the native wildlife of the area, outdoor ecology, and environmental topics. The Museum Environmental Education Coordinator will assist in coordinating living history or interpretive tour programs, assisting with environmental research projects, or developing environmental education programs that help raise the awareness of Historic Virginia Key Beach’s natural systems, and its integrated role in the ecosystems of Miami and Florida.
Primary Responsibilities
 Developing and implementing environmental education programs
 Developing on-site environmental programs including tours, lectures, field labs, and nature observations
 Creating environmental-based exhibits
 Coordinating outreach programs in schools and social organizations
 Researching Historic Virginia Key Beach Park’s environmental history and culture, flora and fauna
 Creating comparison studies on neighboring Florida beaches, and interpreting data for papers and publication
 Collaborating with the volunteer coordinator and volunteers designated to work on HVKBP projects
 Working with area environmental organizations
 Some weekend hours will be required
Qualifications
 B.S. or B.A. in the environmental sciences preferred, or in science, natural history, or life sciences
 Field experience required
 Lab experience and research required
 1-2 years teaching experience or equivalent preferred, museum experience a plus
 General interest in children and teaching
 Ability to conduct physical outdoor activities
 Knowledge of aquatic and terrestrial ecology
 Knowledge of Florida’s natural landscape and ecosystems
