The Children's Museum of Naples (C’mon) is seeking a full-time Education Director for this exciting cultural institution opening in 2010. The position reports to the Executive Director and will plan and develop the education programs and community partnerships on behalf of C’mon and to enhance the mission and vision established by the Board of Directors. The Education Director is also responsible for grant writing and fundraising to support educational programs.
Primary Responsibilities
•Work collaboratively with Executive Director to design and implement a comprehensive education department and education programs with appropriate marketing strategies for C’mon in keeping with the Museum’s goals as outlined by the Education Council’s “Five Year Plan”
•Prepare reports and briefings to be utilized by Board of Directors, Education Council, Executive Director and staff.
•Oversee the design and maintenance of C’mon education-related databases. Ensure database meets the needs of volunteers, staff and reporting requirements for funders.
•Responsible for hiring, firing, evaluating and supervising department staff members and volunteers.
•Formulate and implement a training program for education staff members and volunteers to be able to develop skills they need to better perform their jobs.
•Oversee the development of a series of partnerships with local schools and school related organizations.
•Oversee the development of partnerships with other cultural and educational non-profits in Southwest Florida.
•Locate grant funds, write proposals and manage grant projects.
•Serve as the Children’s Museum’s representative to local area educational organizations.
•Develop a strategy for implementing the new Sunshine State Standards into all of our school programs.
•Participate in planning and coordinating programs, projects and events with other departments at the Children’s Museum
•Ensure that all programs and materials produced by the Children’s Museum are of the highest quality.
Qualifications
•Minimum five years experience in Museum Education
•Minimum three years experience in Volunteer Management
•Knowledgeable about current practices in Museum Education
•Superior teaching skills with experience from birth to age 12 range including programs such as camps, afterschool programs and school field trips.
•Ability to connect C’mon to the community through remarkable and meaningful learning experiences for children & their families.
•Ability to balance the demands of creative program development and delivery with departmental administrative strategy and oversight
•Committed to nurturing the Museum’s and his/her staffs’ growth through all phases of construction, implementation, and refinement
•Development experience including knowledge of foundation/corporate solicitations, government funding, grant writing and special events
•Excellent written & verbal communication skills
•Computer literacy, internet knowledge and experience with basic MS Office
•Ability to do multiple tasks, prioritize them and work well with interruptions.
•Excellent attention to detail, organizational and interpersonal skills.
•Demonstrated ability to appropriately handle confidential information.
•Flexibility, dependability, and professional demeanor.
Working Conditions:
a. Informal office environment.
b. Involves some evening and weekend hours.
c. Moderate amount of travel.
