The Norton Museum of Art seeks a motivated and innovative professional for the new position of Assoc. Curator of Contemporary Art. This is a newly budgeted position reflecting the museum’s strategic plan to expand the collection and exhibition of contemporary art. Responsibilities include the development of an increasingly important collection of art made after 1985 by artists born from 1960, and the implementation of special exhibitions and programs. The successful candidate will develop and maintain strong relationships with collectors, artists, donors, and dealers; engage and attract audiences through the development of a dynamic program of contemporary art and participate on a national/international level in contemporary art.
The position includes responsibilities such as public speaking, budget preparation, research, writing and publication skills. This position works closely and effectively with other museum departments, such as Education, Advancement, and Public Relations and Marketing. A graduate degree in art history with a specialty in contemporary art and a minimum three years’ museum or related experience is required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse range of people are essential. Salary is commensurate with experience.
