The University of Arizona Libraries and Center for Creative Photography (CCP) seek applicants with excellent communication skills and strong capabilities in exhibition support, including working knowledge of graphic design software. The full-time incumbent selected will work closely with the chief curator and assistant curator, and maintain good interpersonal relationships with the CCP staff and the public.
The Center for Creative Photography is an archive and research center located on the University of Arizona campus. We retain the archives of Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, Garry Winogrand, Harry Callahan, and other great 20th century photographers—over fifty archives in all.
CCP MISSION STATEMENT: The Center for Creative Photography actively collects, preserves, interprets, manages and makes available materials that are essential to understanding photography and its history. Through its archives, collections, education programs, exhibitions, and publications, the Center promotes research into and appreciation of the photographic medium while safeguarding original objects for posterity.
Primary Responsibilities
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Assists with all aspects of exhibition planning which includes creating checklists, drafting labels, pulling materials from the vault, data entry/editing of collection management database, and tracking invoices related to exhibition planning and preparation.
•Monitors the print study room as assigned; responds to inquiries regarding CCP curatorial activities, including portfolio reviews, exhibitions, programs, traveling exhibitions and when appropriate, redirect inquiries on behalf of the chief curator and assistant curator.
•Assists in creating traveling exhibition packages, including follow up with venues to discern interest and requirements.
•Communicates and manifests the organizational values to staff and users.
•Participates on project teams and, as appointed, library-wide cross functional teams.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
•Two years of general museum activities experience;
•OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•Ability to work collaboratively, proactively and constructively as well as work independently in a team-based environment to promote the mission of the University of Arizona Libraries and the Center for Creative Photography.
•Ability to work with diverse staff, faculty and students.
•Multi-tasker able to work with a high attention to detail.
•Demonstrated organizational skills and exceptional communication skills.
•Ability to be accountable for successes as well as failures.
•Proactive and creative problem solving capabilities.
•Knowledge of handling art, especially photography.
•Experience with computer databases for museum collections.
•Familiarity or interest in marketing the visual arts.
