Exhibitions Coordinator;
DEPARTMENT: Programs and Operations;
REPORTS TO: Director of Programs and Operations;
TYPE OF POSITION: Full-time, non-exempt.
Primary Responsibilities
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide a full range of programmatic support to the Director of Programs and Operations and is responsible for facilitating the entire sequence of functions related to exhibition development, installation and maintenance Coordinate design, construction, installation, and maintenance of permanent and temporary museum exhibitions Coordinate the procurement of materials and tools
· Schedule, monitor, and revise work for construction of the exhibition and maintain project status records
· Anticipate and prepare for the technical requirements associated with exhibition installation
Oversee production of exhibition graphics, signage and gallery guides Coordinate with shipping agents, insurance brokers, artwork conservators, two-dimensional object framers and installation specialists such as carpenters, painters, art handlers, lighting experts, heavy metal handlers, video/audio technicians and other contract service providers, as may be required for the installation and de-installation of contemporary artwork Track the annual exhibition budget Develop and manage three-year exhibition schedules Act as a resource to and liaison with museum staff regarding exhibition plans, schedules, and activities Draft artist and exhibition contracts as well as object loan agreements; review and administer contracts from other artists and venues Assist exhibition curator(s) with research for exhibitions, artwork handling and exhibit space preparation Additional duties as required.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelors of Arts in museum education, arts education, art history or an allied field.
Experience: At least two to three years project/program management or art administration experience with ability to multi task in fast paced environment required. Must be committed, and sensitive, to working with children. Experience with exhibition planning and in-depth knowledge of art handling and museum quality installation practices. Proven experience in visual art organizations or art museums, a knowledge of and/or openness to contemporary art, and the ability to communicate in a positive manner with diverse audiences, including other staff members, volunteers and the general public. Strong organizational, written and oral communication skills are necessary; ability to work as part of a team of dedicated professionals is essential. Must be highly organized, detail oriented, balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Demonstrated proficiency in areas of budgetary preparation and fiscal management, including monthly and quarterly projections, and future planning. Demonstrated ability to efficiently develop and maintain a records management system. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook. Bilingual a plus.
