This position will oversee and manage the Detroit Historical Society's extensive collection. These collectiosn are housed in several separate locations including the Detroit Historical Museum, Dossin Great Lakes Museum and various locations throughout Historic Fort Wayne and the Collections Resource Center.

This person will oversee the Past Perfect database and paper files, including maintaining accepted standards for the database and records. This person will work with the Registrar to ensure proper collection storage organization and tracking as well as donor confirmation letters. This person will oversee the climate control of all storage facilities as well as museum locations and ensure proper tracking of artifacts while on display and in storage. This person will play an active role in securing new donations to the cllection, develop and manage a plan for locating, digitizing and properly accessioning artifacts and materials within the current collection. This person will provide leadership to interns and volunteers as well as part-time staff at the Collections Resource Center, work with the Collections Committee and enforce loan and donations procedures. Additionally, this person will work to meet budget revenue goals, prepare monthly management reports and be an active member of the Exhibitions and Programs team.

Master's degree in Museum Studies or related field, 3-5 years experience preferred in Collections Management - demonstrated ability to successfully manage special projects and experience with personnel management, including supervising employees, contractors and volunteers. Customer service orienctation and the ability to interact successfully with all members of the organization and community. Excellent oral and written communication skilss, including the ability to successfully advocate the importance of properly preserving the collections and a comprehensive understanding of collections software (preferably Past Perfect).
