Chief Financial Officer

Primary Responsibilities
Responsible for the Museum’s overall financial management and human resources administration. Review, upgrade and implement an appropriate system of policies, internal controls, accounting standards, and procedures.
Responsible for the control and maintenance of all financial transactions and accounting records in compliance with general accounting standards and applicable government regulations.
Responsible for planning, coordinating and completing the annual operating and capital budgets.
Work with Department Directors to monitor and project expenses and revenues and create financial management reports as needed.
Support program staff in grant management activities, including preparation of grant contracts and payment requests.
Maintain and support policies and procedures related to grant making and grant management.
Monitor system for grant activity and provide appropriate information to program and development staff.
Work closely with the Executive Director, Treasurer and the Finance Committee to ensure the financial health of the organization.
Primary staff contact for the Finance and Audit Committees, coordinate all financial reports to the Board and related committees.
Serve as the liaison with the outside auditors, lending institutions, and insurance companies.
Coordinates the annual external audit of the Museum, including the preparation of Form 990 and 199.
Oversee all insurance matters. Responsible for all human resource activities including but not limited to: employee benefit administration, employment policy development and compliance monitoring, and compensation planning.
Responsible for maintaining accurate payroll and all personnel records and services.
Assist in negotiating and/or reviewing all financial and insurance aspects of major agreements and contracts.
Collaborate with the Executive Director and the Senior Staff in strategizing the Museum’s overall institutional strategy.
Additional duties as required.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science in related area of study, Masters degree or CPA preferred.
Experience: A minimum of at least eight years of increasing responsibility in related financial and/or administrative management experience in the field of philanthropy, public administration, preferably in the museum or the not-for-profit sector. Must be committed, and sensitive, to working with children. Knowledge of non-profit accounting regulations and government funding agencies regulations. Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret the impact on financial plans. Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated strong written/oral communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to work effectively with a wide array of constituencies (internal and external). Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy, initiative, establish and accomplish priorities, oversee projects, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential information with tact and discretion. Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook and electronic research, database management, spreadsheet development and analysis, accounting software and presentations.
