This is professional part-time work involving the development, scheduling, implementation, teaching and evaluation of The Morikami’s outreach education programs on Japanese culture for school-age children, families and community organizations. This position is responsible for working closely with the School Programs Specialist, educators, and community organizations and other museum staff. S/he has frequent and regular contact with the public and works to ensure their experiences both on and off-site are positive. Work is performed with considerable independence within the scope of departmental rules, regulations and program policy under the supervision of the Director of Education. This position also requires frequent travel and weekend work.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
• Reports directly to the Director of Education and is reviewed through periodic meetings, written reports.
• Works closely with museum staff who have input into the design of, or related responsibility for the execution of the Museum’s outreach including staff in Marketing, Maintenance, Volunteer Services, Admissions, Collections and Exhibits and other Education Staff.
• Works closely with the School Program Specialist and the Education Associate/ for program development and scheduling programs.
• Works closely with educators, organizations and other external program requestors.
• Works closely with museum volunteers (docents and outreach instructors).
Primary Responsibilities
• Assists in the development, planning and implementation of museum interpretive programs for adults, children and special audiences with an emphasis on outreach program serving schools and other organizations.
o Develops outreach programs for K-12 students and prepares of teaching materials, focusing, as necessary on Florida State Sunshine Standards.
o Develops outreach programs for adults groups and special audiences
o Coordinates outreach programs at school sites and other group locations.
o Conducts outreach programs
o Recruits and trains and schedules outreach instructors
o Upgrades and maintains contents of outreach teaching kits.
• Assists in developing after-school and vacation activities on- and off-site for groups of school age children
• Assists in developing marketing materials to inform teachers and school board and groups and organizations of programming opportunities
• Develops methods and programs to appeal to a wide-range of interests to provide access to Morikami programs at all school levels and to a diverse range of populations.
• Coordinates evaluation procedures
• Assists in developing and updating teacher guides and reference materials
• Assists in developing and implementing teacher training seminars
• Assists in support of the museum residency program
• Schedules and maintains outreach visit calendar, income and attendance information and provides input into master calendar of programs conducted by the School Programs Specialist, and Education Associates with input from those incumbents.
• Performs related work as required
Qualifications
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

-Knowledge of various aspects of Japanese culture
-Skill analyzing state education standards and applying them to The Morikami education programs
-Skills in verbal and written communication
-Skills teaching and working with children and adults involved in outreach programs
-Skill in reaching out to a variety of communities to expand access to Morikami programs
-Ability to plan, budget for, conduct and evaluate educational programs -Ability to provide strong customer-service
-Ability to be attentive to details

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

-B.A. in education and/or Japanese studies
-Experience as a museum educator or teaching in the Florida school system preferred.
-Two years experience in museum outreach preferred
-Available day time hours, including some weekends and evenings
