The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens seeks a creative, team-oriented, and highly motivated Curator for its collection of 6,000 works of European and American art, dating from ca. 1300 to the first half of the 20th Century. The Museum is known for its outstanding Meissen porcelain collection. Jacksonville, Florida, is a city of over a million people, situated on the St. Johns River at a distance of 12 miles from the beaches.
Primary Responsibilities
A specialty in American art or European decorative arts is preferred. The Curator will be responsible for research, re-installation, and publication of the collection, organizing and securing nationally and internationally significant exhibitions, identifying and proposing acquisitions, and identifying and securing foundation and private support. The ability to work effectively and collegially with a broad range of staff, trustees, and collectors is crucial. The Curator is head of the Curatorial department, reports to the Museum Director, and oversees the budget for the curatorial department.
Qualifications
Master’s in art history plus eight years effective curatorial experience required. Demonstrated excellence in writing skills, organization skills, and interpersonal skills are essential. Competitive salary and excellent benefits.
