The Powell Museum seeks an energetic and motivated Executive Director to provide leadership and creative vision for the planning, growth, and administration of all Museum operations. This position is ideal for someone devoted to philanthropic endeavors, eager to “give back” to the community, and willing to explore the full potential of a unique community museum. The qualified candidate will be an enthusiastic individual with a proven record of accomplishing set goals with an emphasis on community outreach and fund raising.
Primary Responsibilities
The Executive Director serves as the Museum’s primary liaison, promoting a positive image of the Museum in all interactions and activities; works closely with the Museum board of directors to develop and implement strategic goals and objectives; plans and manages the business and financial affairs of the Museum and coordinates the work of staff and committees. The Executive Director also will help guide the transition, planning, and partnership with Cinema Group into a new Museum facility scheduled to open in 2010. The applicant must possess a strong understanding and demonstrated achievement in museum and/or non-profit management, business and financial management, fundraising, and the ability to inspire and lead staff, volunteers and directors. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent leadership, management, and administrative skills, as well as strong interpersonal, communication, team-building, negotiation and problem solving skills.
Qualifications
Qualifications include excellent computer, communication, public speaking, and writing skills; Strong understanding and achievement in museum and/or non-profit management; Solid business and financial management experience; Proven ability in fundraising, grant writing, and planned giving; Experience in developing research-based marketing programs; Ability to inspire, lead and manage staff, volunteers and directors; Ability to work closely and effectively with a Board of Directors; Expertise in crafting public/private partnerships; Ability to develop and implement long-range plans; Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in the following or closely related fields: Finance, History, Business Administration, Education, Museum Studies, or Public Administration; At least three years experience directly related to duties and responsibilities specified.
