The Winter Garden Heritage Foundation (WGHF) is currently seeking a dynamic Director to oversee the operation of two museums and the research center. The preferred candidate will have proven expertise and experience in museum administration, finances/budgeting, and collection management. In addition, the candidate will present a successful track record of development and fundraising initiatives including grant writing, corporate sponsorships, marketing and public relations. The individual will be passionate about the preservation and presentation of history, highly motivated, and committed to the success of the WGHF’s mission and goals.

The WGHF is a nonprofit corporation that operates three historical entities (the Museums):
• Winter Garden Heritage Museum, established in 1998 and housed in the historic former Atlantic Coast Line Railroad Depot;
• History Center, the Foundation’s administrative home and repository for research files;
• Central Florida Railroad Museum, housed in the former Tavares and Gulf Railroad Depot.

Primary Responsibilities
1. Resource development - will research and apply for grant opportunities, corporate sponsorship, individual gifts, and museum membership.
2. Develop and implement collections management programs in accordance with professional museum standards.
3. Manage financial operations of the Museums including develop the annual budget for board review and approval as well as manage day to day income and expenses.
4. Develop and implement effecting marketing, outreach, and public relations strategies (e.g. newsletters, email outreach, positive corporate and governmental relationships, media relationships) to increase community awareness and increase visitor attendance.
5. Collaborate with the Education Coordinator to develop educational programs, exhibits, displays.
6. Liaison with local government, business and civic associations.
7. Recruit and manage staff/volunteers including all Human Resource functions.
8. General office management including supply and equipment purchasing, computer networks and website.
9. Other duties as assigned by the President of the Foundation.
Qualifications
Skills and experience required:
• 4 + years in museum operations; at least 2+ years at management level or above including budgets, accounting, program development, and administration.
• 2+ years in nonprofit environment (e.g. fundraising, grant writing, board management).
• Knowledge of collections management, exhibit/program development, and curatorial issues.
• Understanding of business, politics, and cultural/historical preservation.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Publisher, PastPerfect.
• Outstanding written and oral communication skills.

Abilities and personal traits desired:
• Self motivated with strong organizational abilities.
• Ability to adapt sound business practices to a museum setting.
• Ability to work with others in a professional and diplomatic manner.
• Ability to develop an appreciation for and understanding of the uniqueness, importance, and history of the community and to convey such to others.

Education requirements:
BA degree (Museum Studies or comparable preferred).

The Director reports to the President of the Winter Garden Heritage Foundation.
Compensation
• Salary Range - $39k - $43k
• Additional benefits include health insurance, paid vacation, holidays
