The Executive Director of the Pensacola Museum of Art (PMA), who shall be the Chief Executive Officer of the Museum, oversees all of the day-to-day artistic and business of operations of the Museum as well as fiscal management- serving as both artistic director and administrator of the PMA. The Executive Director is responsible for the execution of the mission of the Pensacola Museum of Art, reporting directly to the Board of Directors.
He/she should be a proven leader with vision, excellent management and fundraising skills with an enthusiastic interest in the arts and the long-range development of the PMA.
Primary Responsibilities
Administrative duties of this position include, without limitation:
• Fiscal management of policies set forth by the Board of Trustees;
• Administration of all phases of building and facilities maintenance, renovations and expansions;
• Fundraising for all operations including facilities, exhibition and education programs and endowment.
• Development and administration of effective marketing strategies, advertising and maintenance of good public relations with all PMA contacts and staff
• Active community involvement, membership development and oversight of donor relations and sponsor development
• Operation of the Museum Store
• Grant-writing.
• Direct supervision of all PMA full-time and part-time employees as well as all those implementing matters within the purview of responsibilities to the PMA (Guild, Docents, Volunteer Committees).
As relating to artistic director responsibilities, the Executive Director will serve as Chief Curator with the following roles and responsibilities:
• Direct the efforts to search out, organize, and propose a schedule of varied exhibits, allocating the budget among the various exhibits and garnering sources of additional funds as necessary.
• Provide leadership in the interpretation and presentation of factual information about current and proposed exhibits and classes.
• Working in tandem with curatorial staff, supervise transportation and installation of the exhibits, preparation and printing of catalogues, invitations and other exhibition related publications.
• Assure proper research for educational purposes is carried out for each exhibit. Supervise Education Coordinator and serve as a team member in the development of the educational program by providing informative and relevant interpretive exhibition materials as a resource for docents, gallery staff, and educators, thus supporting tours, school programs, and an active schedule of classes, lectures, and demonstrations.
• Assure exhibitions are properly cared for while in storage and on exhibit.
Qualifications
Education: BA in Art History, Arts Administration and/or Business Management. MA in Art History, Arts Administration and/or Business Management. Must have one degree in Art History. 5+ years museum or arts experience.
Experience: Curatorial skills Strength and experience and passion for art and its presentation within a community context. Ability and desire to facilitate meaningful discussions with audiences around art and issues Skill in connecting audiences of varied ages, interests, and experiences with art ranging a variety of media and artists.
Must have nonprofit arts management experience, energetic, forward-looking, and engaging leadership style. Excellent written and oral communication skills including writing for diverse audiences and strong organizational skills Personal capacity and network of resources to attract artists and visionary collaborators Capacity to work as part of a team and to collaborate with others Ability to delegate, empower, and nurture staff Ability and willingness to fundraise
