Established as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization in 1937, the Historical Society today is the home of nearly 2 million photographic images, maps, architectural drawings, newspapers, journals, three-dimensional objects, antiquities, periodicals and research files that preserve the history of Palm Beach County dating back 12,000 years. On March 15, 2008, this archival collection was moved to the Society’s new location, the Historic 1916 Courthouse in downtown West Palm Beach. This neoclassical-designed, four-story historic building was restored in 2006-7 by Palm Beach County. The restoration project included construction of two permanent museum galleries by the Society with 50-inch touch-screen interactive displays and a temporary exhibit space along with a museum gift and book shop.
