The Gold Coast Railroad Museum is seeking an assistant to the Executive Director and Board President. The Executive Director and Board President work closely together with a staff and core group of dedicated volunteers to manage a fifty-two year-old Miami landmark that spans over fifty acres. They seek a museum assistant comfortable in accepting widely varied duties including:
- Volunteer coordination and recruitment.
- Program planning with the Executive Director.
- Data entry and newsletter maintenance.
- Management of facility rentals.
- Occasional, but limited cashier duty in a museum store.
- Periodic museum interpreter (tour guide) duties.
- Present monthly written report for inclusion in the Executive Director’s monthly report.
Qualifications
Some previous Museum experience is highly recommended but not required. Computer familiarity with Word and Excel is required as well as a wiliness to learn new computer programs. Duties will require a flexible schedule. Some weekend and evening availability is an absolute necessity. A positive teamwork attitude and ability to work around a fluid schedule is a prerequisite for this position. Other job specifications require:
- Ability to multi-task daily.
- Ability to work outdoors in a variety of temperatures and weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs.
- Ability to walk significant distances during the course of a normal work day.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals in a friendly teamwork environment.
- Ability to work in a historic industrial arts environment and follow strict safety rules.
- Ability to complete a Red Cross first-aid/CPR course for future programming requirements.
- Ability to adhere to friendly customer service standards to assure positive visitor experiences.
Compensation
This is an exempt position that “averages” a 30 hour work week but may require 40 or more hours per week during events. The position offers entry level compensation ranging from $18,000 to $20,000 that will be gauged solely on the level of previous museum experience and credentials. Any candidate who fills this position is required to agree to a six month probationary trial period of employment. This position is limited at this time to the above detailed job description of Museum Assistant but may, or may not, at a future date be expanded into a formal program/development director’s position with opportunity for performance based pay increases. However, at this time it is important for any applicant to realize the Executive Director will be overseeing all program and development planning with a very hands-on approach with the Board President until a suitable candidate is found to fill that expanded role.
