The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, Florida State University, Sarasota, FL, seeks a creative scholar and curator to serve as the Museum’s Assistant Curator of European Art. Comprised of three museums on an impressive 66-acre estate on Sarasota Bay, the Ringling Museum includes an internationally recognized art collection, the Ringling mansion Cà d’ Zan, the Circus Museum, Visitor’s Pavilion with the Historic Asolo Theater, and the new Tibbals Learning Center.
The Assistant Curator of European Art will assist in coordinating Curatorial Department projects and activities, and must be able to work flexibly as part of a larger team. The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues to originate installations, exhibitions, projects, and programs. The candidate must be able to engage and interact effectively with the public at all levels.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will hold a Masters degree in Art History or associated degree, with Ph.D. preferred, and will have at least two years of curatorial or relevant experience, a broad knowledge of art history, and excellent writing, research, and project planning skills. Public speaking is required. Flexible hours are required due to public and event engagements. Position requires fingerprinting.
A specialization in European art along with reading proficiency in a foreign language is preferred. Basic knowledge of European languages desirable.
