For centuries the bones lay buried, until discovered by chance in 1974 while excavating for a housing development, earth moving equipment exposed South Dakota's greatest fossil treasure. Fortunately, through the work of local citizens, the Mammoth Site was preserved. Today it is the world's largest Columbian mammoth exhibit, and a world-renown research center for Pleistocene studies.

Chartered in 1990 as a non-profit organization, the Manteca Historical Society, has made great strides in providing a local historical museum of which the entire community can be proud. Support for this endeavor has poured forth in the form of generous contributions of photographs, documents, artifacts, other memorabilia, volunteer work time, and money. More of all these things are still needed, especially the most valuable, Volunteers. A few hours each month can be very rewarding.

The Museum is located within the Maramec Spring Park. The Maramec Museum houses natural and cultural history exhibits. A twenty-one foot bluff, waterfall, and five-hundred gallon aquarium greets the visitors as they enter the museum. Once inside you will see a rain model with lightning, thunder, and a cool afternoon shower. Displays show the native wildlife in their natural habitats. History of the Iron Works is explained using working models and displays.

The museum includes a year-round exhibit that includes “examples of fine marble and shows the history of marble mining in Pickens County. Many stone cutters and other workers who migrated from either Italy or Scotland in the early years of the industry settled in Nelson to work in the area’s marble industry. Today the Great Northern Railroad operates between Tate, Georgia, and the CSX interchange at Elizabeth (Marietta) five days a week.

The Tennessee Historical Commission provides management over site and the Governor John Sevier Memorial Association (GJSMA for short) is a local organization which runs the daily operation of the park. The GJSMA is also in charge of the numerous ongoing restoration projects around the park, not only to keep and maintain the exciting eight historical buildings, but to expand when possible the other buildings and workshops of John Sevier’s time.

World WarII vets are dying off at the rate of 1,500 per week so it's important that we let them tell their stories. The Marfa and Presidio County Museum is located along Highway 90, the main thoroughfare intersecting the west Texas town of Marfa. The Museum is housed in a historic adobe home built in the 1880s by local Don Juan Humphries.

The Maritime & Classic Boating Museum of Florida was incorporated in 1993 and opened to the public in 1995, moving to its home in 2003. Easily accessed by land or sea, via the south fork of the St. Lucie River, MCBM with its own marina, was located in a small cottage on Kanner Highway, along with a boat restoration facility.
