Welcome to the L.C. Bates Museum of Natural History and Culture where students and adults can explore natural history and Maine history through self-guided visits and programs designed to meet Maine’s Learning Results. Museum exhibits include Maine natural history, Americana, art, archaeology, minerals and ethnology. The museum and its exhibits and outdoor arboretum provide a window into our history, diverse animal and plant life, and Maine environment.

We have thousands of items on permanent display. We are now able to have more programs that involve the community. We try to have a current display that changes every few months.

The majority of the downstairs level of the museum is given over to the W. A Jones Collection of Ancient Weapons. William A. Jones owned an iron foundry in Chicago, traveling around the world in search of items for his collection.

We are housed in a spacious, Colonial-style building with ample parking and lawns for outside events. Listed by the American Automobile Association as a 'GEM Site,' we offer interesting, educational displays 5 days a week, along with special events such as our annual Civil War Weekend in June, and Old Car Show in July. Special theme displays, guest speakers, and more are routinely scheduled.

This Greek Revival home is considered to be the "Crown Jewel" of Madison's National Historic Landmark District. Completed in 1844, the house was designed by noted architect Francis Costigan. James F.D. Lanier is one of the most important citizens in the history of Indiana. He helped save the Indiana's finances several times, most notably lending the state over 1 million dollars during the Civil War.

The Lansdale Historical Society operates from a two-building complex at 137-141 Jenkins Ave. One of the buildings - the Jenkins Homestead - is a Federalist style house that dates to 1770. The land was owned by the Jenkins family as far back as 1743. At one time the farmstead encompassed more than 120 acres - a tract larger than the Borough of Lansdale. The homestead was acquired by the borough in 1972 and has been maintained by the society since then.

Located in the historic compressor building associated with the former Alaska Juneau Gold Mining Company which operated in Juneau from 1912 until 1944. The museum features one of the world's largest air compressors and other industrial artifacts associated with hard rock gold mining. The site also includes electric locomotives and rail cars which hauled men to the mine and ore to the mill. Access to the museum is via a short hike up the hill on a trail of uneven terrain-well worth the effort.

The Lawrence County Museum is housed in the 100-year-old Hamer-Smith building at 929 15th Street in Bedford, Indiana. The museum is home to many interesting artifacts that showcase the history and heritage of Lawrence County. Most of these are housed in the 2400 square foot gallery. There is an extensive collection of research materials in the Edward L. Hutton Genealogical Research Library on the second floor.
