The fossil collection of the E.C. Allison Research Center at SDSU has been transferred to the San Diego Natural History Museum where they are being catalogued and incorporated into the large research collections of that insititution. All relevant supporting data, including field notes, aerial photographs, maps, and theses have been archived and are available for the use of interested researchers. Portions of the collection can be accessed through an online database located at www.sdnhm.

It is one of 28 National Estuarine Research Reserves around the country that serve as outdoor laboratories and field classrooms focused on our nation's estuaries. Elkhorn Slough is a 'Globally Important Bird Area' designated by the National Audubon Society and a rich environment for diverse wildlife, including one of the densest aggregations of California Sea Otters.

Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park showcases some of Florida's loveliest landscape surrounding the headwaters of the Homosassa River. The 210-acre park is home to native Florida wildlife including the endangered West Indian Manatees, Red Wolves, Florida Panther, Key deer, Whooping Cranes and much more. The park is one of only a few places where you can see a West Indian manatee up close 365 daysa year.

The Elsing collection includes over 3000 specimens of spectacular minerals, gems, fossils, native American artifacts, and oriental carvings. The carvings range from intricately sculpted ivory pieces to jade, open and even cork. Approximately 200 different mineral species are represented from regional Oklahoma varieties to rare specimens from around the world. Special exhibit rooms are set aside for fluorescent minerals and delicate carvings.

Ground breaking for the education annex at the Gray Fossil Site began early March 2010. Our team of paleontologists monitored the ground moving process to keep an eye out for the discovery of more fossils. Dr. Wallace stated there were no major finds during this stage of construction.
