Dedicated to the study of the area's history and the preservation of Macoupin County memorabilia, this fine home & outbuildings is a wonderful example of Macoupin County's past. The Anderson Mansion Museum consists of a two-story Victorian home filled with antiques and collectibles of the past, with memories and a Library of Literature of our ancestors. Several outer buildings, including an authentic Schoolhouse and newly constructed and equipped Print Shop, are interesting displays also.

In the 1800s, Mandarin was a small farming village that shipped oranges, grapefruit, lemons and other fruits and vegetables to Jacksonville and points north on the steamships that traveled the St. Johns River. In 1864, the Union steamship, the Maple Leaf, hit a Confederate mine and sank just off Mandarin Point. Author Harriet Beecher Stowe wintered in the village from 1867 to 1884.

The Museum is located within the Maramec Spring Park. The Maramec Museum houses natural and cultural history exhibits. A twenty-one foot bluff, waterfall, and five-hundred gallon aquarium greets the visitors as they enter the museum. Once inside you will see a rain model with lightning, thunder, and a cool afternoon shower. Displays show the native wildlife in their natural habitats. History of the Iron Works is explained using working models and displays.

The Tennessee Historical Commission provides management over site and the Governor John Sevier Memorial Association (GJSMA for short) is a local organization which runs the daily operation of the park. The GJSMA is also in charge of the numerous ongoing restoration projects around the park, not only to keep and maintain the exciting eight historical buildings, but to expand when possible the other buildings and workshops of John Sevier’s time.
