We are currently in the process of restoring the interior of the historic Old Butler School which serves as the Oak Brook Heritage Center. The Heritage Center is operated by the Historical Society and, upon completion, will serve as an educational resource for the display and study of the heritage and history of Oak Brook for residents, school children and visitors alike. Small group meeting space will also be available for local organizations.

In light of the impending closure of Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois, Mayor Katy Podagrosi established the Air Museum Committee in 1989. She concluded: "A museum will not contribute to Rantoul's economic survival; it will contribute to Rantoul's cultural survival."

In 1991, The Air Museum Committee was charged with establishing a governing Foundation and acquiring the funding for a museum.
