The Atlanta History Museum at the Atlanta History Center is one of the largest history museums in the nation, featuring award-winning signature exhibitions that tell the story of the region's people, from its earliest settlers to the international city of today. The old Barrow County jail now serves as the headquarters of the Barrow County Historical Society and Museum. Visitors to the Museum will discover interesting tidbits of the county history effectively displayed. Located behind the original Barrow County Courthouse.

The museum includes a year-round exhibit that includes “examples of fine marble and shows the history of marble mining in Pickens County. Many stone cutters and other workers who migrated from either Italy or Scotland in the early years of the industry settled in Nelson to work in the area’s marble industry. Today the Great Northern Railroad operates between Tate, Georgia, and the CSX interchange at Elizabeth (Marietta) five days a week.

The purposes of the Northeast Georgia History Center at Brenau University shall be to:
acquire and preserve sources of information concerning the history of Northeast Georgia by collecting, cataloguing, preserving, and maintaining manuscripts, photographs, and artifacts pertaining to the history of this region;
maintain and operate museum facilities adequate to preserve, protect, and display materials and artifacts of historical interest to arouse the citizens of and visitors t

Tellus features four incredible galleries: the Weinman Mineral Gallery; Fossil Gallery; Science in Motion, a walk through the development of motorized transportation; and Collins Family My Big Backyard, a hands-on activity area for kids. Tellus also includes gem panning and fossil dig areas and a digital planetarium.
