Dinosaur Ridge is an outdoor museum along a trail along Alameda Parkway that goes up and over a spectacular mountain of a type called a hogback. Locally the mountain is named Dinosaur Ridge because of abundant dinosaur fossils along the trail. One site has Late Jurassic dinosaur bones from about 150 million years ago exposed in a cliff of sandstone; another has over 300 footprints made by Early Cretaceous dinosaurs about 100 million years ago.
Pueblo, Colorado
Botanical Garden, Children's, Natural History, Nature Centers, Park, Science, Zoo
Open year-round, the Pueblo Zoo is located in City Park in Pueblo, Colorado. Visitors, including those using strollers or wheelchairs, enjoy an easy stroll through beautifully landscaped grounds that lead to Serengeti Safari, North American Grasslands, the Australian Outback, World of Color, and an Asian Adventure. In the Ecocenter, explore a tropical rain forest, discover naked mole rats in their underground world, and watch penguins 'fly' underwater.
Woodland Park, Colorado
Archaeology, Children's, General, Natural History, Nature Centers, Park, Science, Specialized
Visitors to the center enjoy its wide collection of fossilized animals from the late Cretaceous period. A movie in the center's theater shows how scientists dig up fossils and get them ready for display. Even better, visitors can peer through windows into the paleo lab and watch specimens being prepared.
