The Trails & Rails Museum has six historic buildings to tour through, as well as livery barn and an authentic Union Pacific steam engine and caboose. The archive building is used by researchers all over the world. We have acquired the land to the west of us and can almost double in size. Join us for several special events through-out the year! We are located on the original Mormon Trail Route (current 11th St.)

Five different buildings of treasures of Dixon County history. Our Research Room is a great help for genealogists, lots of old newspapers from Dixon County. Also we are getting to gether the history and memories of the RRs that run through Dixon County. Our country School house has pictures and records books from country schools in Dixon county.

The Frank House was designed by George William Frank, Jr. for his parents who lived in the house until 1900. It was the first house west of the Missouri River to be wired for electricity during its construction (1886-1889.) In 1907 the Frank House became a part of the Nebraska State Tuberculosis Hospital and was used as living quarters for the hospital’s staff until 1972. The Frank House is now an integral part of the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

The Museum is in a 1906 Burlington Passenger Station, the first Neo-Classical Revival architectural style on the Burlington line. This building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Plattsmouth Conservancy is dedicated to the preservation of Plattsmouth's architectural heritage. The Plattsmouth Conservancy is a non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging city residents and businesses to wisely use and retain their historical homes and buildings. The Conservancy seeks to promote the identification, evaluation, preservation, and restoration of these buildings.

The Sam Macchette station, used by the Pony Express between 1860 and 1861, is located in Ehmen Park in the center of Gothenburg. It was used as a fur trading post/ranch house along the Oregon Trail southwest of Gothenburg. It was moved from its original site and rebuilt in Ehmen Park in 1931. The museum has been open to the public since 1954.

About thirty miles south of Omaha down Highway 50 and thirty miles east of Lincoln on Highway 34 exists something you might not expect in the small town of Weeping Water. It is the Weeping Water Valley Historical Society Museum Complex. For the size of the town, the museum really is a site to see. You can see displays on Native American Culture, frontier life, go visit a Doctor's Office form the late 1800's or see recreations of the Weeping Water's early buisnesses.

The Willa Cather Pioneer Memorial and Educational Foundation (Willa Cather Foundation) was founded in 1955, through the efforts of a small group of volunteers in Red Cloud, Nebraska, led by Mildred R. Bennett. Today the Foundation is directed by a thirty-member Board of Governors that includes nationally recognized scholars, teachers, and business and professional people from throughout the United States.
