The museum recently acquired 2 Welsh immigrant cottages. They are in need of major repair and when finished will be restored to their immigrant era status. They will serve as an educational stop for visitors to learn of this unique, area-specific history.
The museum was started 31 years ago from collections of many local, amateur historians. It is supported by the local borough and by donations from our citizens. It serves as an information center for the community and it's history.
Photos and memorabilia from the early slate quarry industry and the Welsh immigrants, railroad photo collections, information on the early businesses and genealogy.
There are copies of some local genealogy, as well as many aspects of the area and it's history.
Tours available for the local students. Annually third grade and one first grade class visit. Science classes from Maryland have also visited as well as teachers during inservice science classes. 130 gifted students were given a local history program last year. We offered history, a taste of Welsh language and food, slate splitting, quarry tour, visiting an archaeological dig, etc.
- Museum website designed and produced by the local high school; Kennard-Dale High School.
4 volunteers have written a local history book titled, "The River and the Ridge".
