Mission StatementOur vision is to provide the history of the town to visitors in an interesting way. By having programs on local history. To have a time set aside for folks to meet others who have lived here most of their life and to be able to ask questions about avon park. To take care of all the resources that are available to the public and keep them in an orderly way. To help writers and authors find information in our research room. To keep a record of obituaries for those interested. To serve as an educator for avon park history.
HistoryThe museum was formerly the Seaboard Coastline Depot that opened in 1926. In 1981 it became a museum. In 1986 a 1948 California zephyr dining car was added. Luncheons are served for groups of 15-40 people. The building is in good condition. Outside is stuccoed, a pinkish color with white trimming. The building was built for separation of the whites and coloreds.

Artifacts CollectionsBrown n serve rolls were invented in Avon Park. World's largest bombing range in the 1940s, oldest lake in North America, Lake Tulane 50,000 years old. swiitchboard, the last to be used by a telephone company in Florida.
Research CollectionsAP high school annuals, Walker Academy school annuals, newspapers--the avon park sun hard copies and also on microfilm. Videos of local interest such as Kissimmee River project, the bombing range, Lodwick Aviation Military Academy. hundreds of old photos.

Not a restaurant, but reserved for group luncheons of 15-40 people. It is a 1948 railroad car that was converted into a dining car in the 1970s by auto train. Tables and chairs, lunch includes cloth tablecloths & napking, silver and food is served by historical society members for $10 per person includes beverage and dessert.
