Description

The Kentucky Derby Museum captures the tradition and excitement of “the greatest two minutes in sports,” the Kentucky Derby. View “The Greatest Race,” our 360-degree HD video which takes you from the birth of a young foal to the Kentucky Derby’s Winners Circle. Enjoy two floors of exhibits. Watch your favorite Derby from as early as 1918 on the Warner L. Jones Time Machine. Watch and listen while owners and trainers share Derby stories. Listen to jockeys relive their Derby moments. Learn about the importance of African American jockeys and trainers. Visit the International Horseshoeing Hall of Fame. Take guided tours of Churchill Downs’ barn and infield areas, jockeys’ quarters, millionaires row and press box. Visit the resident Thoroughbred and miniature horses. Shop the Finish Line Gift Shop for unique equine and Kentucky related gifts and souvenirs. Kentucky Derby Museum where technology and history race together.

In 2009 April- Dec. 31st we will open Derby Decades: Simply Chic a retrospective of fashion through 14 decades of Derby history. From extravagant to elegant each decade tells the story of the historic pageantry of the Kentucky Derby.

History

Opened in 1985 with a generous endowment from the J. Graham Brown foundation in an effort to promote, preserve and advance the traditions of the Kentucky Derby. The museum is a 5013c non-profit facility operating off revenue generated by gift shop sales, tourism and rental income.
