DescriptionThe Museum is dedicated to collecting, preserving, and interpreting the county's rich history. Over the next two years, the Museum will complete the Rural Way of Life exhibit and new programs will provide opportunities for families and groups to get involved that history.
History1972 - Andrew County Historical Society established and based in county courthouse.
1976 - Opened a museum at Clasbey Community Center.
1988 - Began construction of the Harry F. Duncan Building to house the Andrew County Museum.
1989 - Received the Duncan Collection of Kewpies and other rare dolls from Mabel Duncan Dray and a financial gift to house and display them from Harry F. Duncan.
1993 - Received a subsequent donation from Anneliese Duncan that, with the earlier Duncan/Dray gift, helped expand the Museum.
Over the past decade, the Museum has:
- adopted a strategic plan, guiding the Museum in a transformation from an institution with displays of legacy collections to a dynamic, active place with exciting, new, interpretive exhibits;
- completed an $830,000 capital campaign to support the new exhibit program;
- won passage of a county-wide sales tax to support the Museum’s annual operating expenses;
- researched, planned, designed and installed a 900 sq. ft. orientation exhibit which summarizes Andrew County’s history and serves as introduction to A Rural Way of Life, a new, permanent, 3,900-square-foot exhibit.
