DescriptionThe Board of Directors and staff strive to make the Museum a community gathering place where visitors learn and take pride in Andrew County’s rural way of life —its families, farms, towns, social life, and community spirit. Over the next two years, the Museum will: develop and promote new programs and temporary exhibits to increase community awareness and attract new and returning visitors, and programs to attract and retain members; strengthen internal systems, train staff and expand the use of volunteers; and develop plans to diversify the funding base.
History
Year Founded: 1972
Over the past 14 years, the Museum has:
- adopted a strategic plan, guiding the Museum in a transformation from an institution with displays of legacy collections to a dynamic, active place with exciting, new, interpretive exhibits;
- completed an $850,000 capital campaign to support the new exhibit program;
- won passage of a county-wide sales tax to support the Museum’s annual operating expenses;
- researched, planned, designed and installed a 4000 sq. ft. exhibit," A Rural Way of Life", which summarizes Andrew County’s history from 1841 to 2001.
