Description

The Delray Beach Historical Society site at the corner of N.E. First St. & N. Swinton Ave. consists of 3 restored houses. Cason Cottage Museum is a house museum reflecting South Florida family lifestyle of the period 1915-1935. The 1926 Florida Bungalow houses administrative offices, exhibit space and the Porch Gift Shop. The 1908 Hunt House (ESW History Learning Center & Archives)houses exhibit space, curator's office, conference room, and portable classroom space. An archives storage building is attached.

Mission

The mission of the Delray Beach Historical Society is to preserve the city's archives and historic sites, to educate the community about Delray's heritage and to encourage public interest in the historic past of Delray Beach.

History

The Delray Beach Historical Society (DBHS) was founded in 1964. Cason Cottage Museum was opened in 1989. The 1926 Florida Bungalow was restored in 2003. Hunt House was opened at the end of 2008 and dedicated in May, 2009. The DBHS has sponsored many local history exhibits, tours, events, Florida history lectures,and children's history education programs.
