Grew out of the Elissa Project, a 1877 sailing ship, that opened in 1982. This project expanded to become the Texas Seaport Museum in 1991.
Other than the Elissa, very small collection of maritime artifacts, 1880-1920 (slightly more
than 100 objects).
Some photos and documents; available for research. Extensive photos and drawings of Elissa restoration.
Exhibitions, teacher workshops, docent program, gallery tours, educators guide, lectures,
and an overnight program for children, "It's a Sailor's Life"; available for tour/loan. Quarterly family day program, "Hand, Reef, and Steer" traveling trunk program. Sail training program involving ELISSA; "Outpost 001" communities in school program."Maritime Mystery" marine archeology program.
