Description

Imagine a museum dedicated to the region and nation's rich glass heritage. A place where examples of thousands of products can be viewed and compared and where the stories of people and processes come to life! The WVMAG provides this and much, much more.

History

Incorporated 1993. Physically opened in 1998. Moved to current facility 2007.

Artifact Collections

The collections consist of articles of glassware made by American manufacturers from the nineteenth century to the present day. All major manufacturers are represented, as well as many little known companies. The collection ranges from rich cut glass and high-end art glass to Depression era machine glassware and glass toilet floats, with everything else in between. The National Marble Museum is also a part of our collections. Other items connected with the glass industry include union badges and other memorabilia, tools for the manufacture of glass, and much more.

Research Collections

In addition to a research library, WVMAG has an extensive collection of original catalogs, photographs, factory archives, and other paper materials.

Educational Programs

In addition to our exhibits, we offer a number of hands-on displays for younger visitors. We sponsor an annual Glass Gathering that is held at various locations around the country and features lectures, demonstrations of glass making techniques, factory tours, and other events.
