The Alex Haley Museum and Interpretive Center is a tribute location to Alexander Murray Palmer Haley. It opened as a museum and became a historical landmark in 1986. The museum's main attraction is Alex Haley's childhood home that was also the home of his grandparents, Will and Cynthia Palmer. Many parts of the house, including the stove and the floors, are original pieces from the 1920s. The newest addition to the site is the Interpretive Center which opened August 2010.

The Bartlett Museum, located in the Gotten House, contains historical displays that serve to help our citizens learn about the rich heritage of our community and its former citizens. In addition, the Museum is furnished with period furniture which allows it to retain that 'homey' feeling while one is visiting the building. The Big Black Creek Historical Association, Inc. was formed to identify, preserve, and promote historical and cultural sites within eastern Haywood and western Madison Counties in Tennessee including the communities of Denmark, Leighton, Mercer, and Woodland. Restoration of the Denmark Presbyterian Church is underway with a grant from the Tennessee Department of Transportation and Madison County.

Our main property contains over 8 miles of walking trails, an ca. 1850's Spring Frog cabin, a Visitor Center which contains our museum. The display center of our Visitor Center contains artifacts from Paleo Indian, Archaic, Woodland, Mississippian, Historic Cherokee and Pioneer Period.

The Chattanooga Regional History Museum in Chattanooga, Tennessee has been defunct for several years with a Hampton Inn on that property now. While rebuilding they ran out of funding and the artifacts have been divided between the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (Special Collections) and the Chattanooga Public Library.
