Belmont, The Gari Melchers Estate and Memorial Gallery, in Stafford County near Fredericksburg, Virginia, is the former residence of the American figure painter Gari Melchers (1860-1932). The museum consists of the artist's home, studio and gardens. The stone studio and galleries house the largest collection of Melchers' works anywhere. Gari Melchers was one of the most decorated artists of his day. Today he is virtually unknown. His unvarying ambition to reproduce the essential character of a place and its people was the key to his international success, and yet it caused him to be considered old-fashioned by the close of his career.

The museum and library were established by James Monroe's great-granddaughter, Rose Gouverneur Hoes, and her sons as an educational memorial to the life and times of this Founding Father. Items belonging to James and Elizabeth Monroe make up the collection.

Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Site

In 1927 the U.S. Congress established Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania County Memorial National Military Park to commemorate the heroic deeds of the men engaged at the battles of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Wilderness, and Spotsylvania Court House. Today the park also includes the historic structures of Chatham, Ellwood, Salem Church, and the "Stonewall" Jackson Shrine.

The Fredericksburg Center for the Creative Arts (FCCA) is a non-profit, member-supported, volunteer run arts center and gallery housed in the historic Silversmith House (c. 1785). We are also a partner of the Viginia Museum of Fine Arts which provides the FCCA with numerous resources to share with the community. We display the work of local and national artists, provide educational opportunities for children and adults, and place a strong emphasis on community outreach and interaction. Beyond our regular exhibition schedule we sponsor lectures, a monthly film series, monthly poetry readings, trips to sites of cultural and artistic interest, and also one-time events.

The mission of George Washington’s Fredericksburg Foundation is to enhance the public understanding and appreciation of the lives, values, and legacies of George Washington, Fielding and Betty Washington Lewis, and their families.

Ferry Farm is an active archaeological site. The foundation seeks to determine the location, size, and layout of the Washington farm where George Washington spent his boyhood years.' Museum.History='In 1922, an energetic and far-sighted group of people led by Mrs. Vivian Minor Fleming, rallied the resources to purchase Kenmore, the Fredericksburg house built in 1775 by George Washington’s sister Betty and her husband, Colonel Fielding Lewis.

Hugh Mercer Apothecary Shop

ca. 1772 This eighteenth-century building was restored to house the Hugh Mercer Apothecary Shop, a museum of medicine, pharmacy, and military and political affairs. Dr. Mercer served the citizens of Fredericksburg with medicines and treatments of the time. Leeches, lancets, snakeroot, and crab claws made up just some of the remedies. Dr. Mercer practiced medicine for fifteen years in Fredericksburg. His patients included Mary Washington. Dr. Mercer left his practice to join the Revolutionary army and died as a Brigadier General at the Battle of Princeton.
