The mission of the Cpl. Smedley National Vietnam War Museum is to educate the youth and the general public in regard to the sacfifices of all veterans, past and present, in their service to our country. Through our displays and artifacts, many of which are hands on, our staff is able to communicate the experiences of the veteran to the visitors. We also participate in community outreach by taking various displays to schools, parades and parks.

Orlando Science Center

Science

The Orlando Science Center serves as the hub of informal science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) learning in central Florida. Each year more than 300,000 guests enjoy interactive and engaging exhibits and demonstrations as well as our giant screen films, planetarium shows and observatory. School break and summer camps provide thousands of children from preschool through high school to explore science concepts from engineering to CSI, in-depth and hands-on. Our newest addition, preschool, serves 4 years olds, engaging them in exploration at very young age. Check out our Dark Science program weekend evenings during the summer. From laser shows to our ever popular Kaboom!, there is something for everyone.

Cpl. Larry E. Smedley National Vietnam War Museum

The museum is named in honor of Cpl. Larry Eugene Smedley, who was born on March 4, 1949 in Front Royal Virginia. He attended Howard Junior High School in Union Park, Florida, leaving in 1964.He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on March 18, 1966 in Orlando, Florida. In July 1967, LCpl. Smedley arrived in the Republic of Vietnam. He was assigned duty as a rifleman and squad radio man with Company D, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division, and was promoted to Corporal on September 1, 1967. On December 21, 1967 Cpl. Smedley was killed action in Quang Nam Province and was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor posthumously.

The Mennello Museum of American Art

The Mennello Museum of American Art was founded in 1998 by the City of Orlando with a generous selection of paintings by self-taught artist Earl Cunningham (1893-1977) donated from the collection of Michael and Marilyn Mennello. It's the largest collection of Cunninghams in existence and remains on permanent display. Tucked away on a picturesque shore of Lake Formosa in Orlando Loch Haven Park, the museum is housed in what was once the private home of Howard Phillips, son of philanthropist Dr. P. Phillips. A Smithsonian Affiliate, the museum also uses its gallery spaces to showcase changing exhibitions featuring American art of all genres and time periods, including originally curated and traveling shows. A lakeside sculpture garden is another attraction.

The University of Central Florida UCF Art Gallery, located at a major metropolitan research university, exists to expand the understanding of art by serving as a teaching instrument for the benefit of the University and the Central Florida community. This is achieved by exhibiting works of art, maintaining and nurturing a permanent collection, and providing educational outreach programs for students and the general public. In selecting exhibitions, the Gallery considers all periods of art which reflect a diverse range of cultures, philosophies, and media. The UCF Art Gallery strives to exhibit nationally and internationally recognized artwork that supports the goals of the University while contributing to the cultural vitality of our region.
