Reeves Museum of Ceramics

The Museums at Washington and Lee University (Museums at W&L) advance learning through direct engagement with the collections and facilitate an interdisciplinary appreciation of art, history, and culture. The Museums at W&L consist of the University Chapel & Galleries, the Reeves Museum of Ceramics, and Watson Galleries. Works from the ceramics, art and history collections are also on view in several campus buildings.

Russell County was formed in 1786 out of Washington County. Formed out of Russell County in whole or in part were Buchanan, Dickenson, Lee, Scott, Tazewell, and Wise Counties. The Russell County Courthouse burned in 1872; the loss of one deed book and one marriage book are attributed to this fire. The Local History Room at the Lebanon Library has an extensive collection containing local history and authors as well as extensive genealogical material. There is also a small local history collection available at the Honaker Library. The Rockbridge Historical Society is a repository for much of the history of Rockbridge County and Lexington. Historical resources, artifacts, and many publications and papers are available for use by historians or anyone who is researching the history or people of this area.
